Around us

The area: Verviers, the Vesdre valley and the Hautes Fagnes

Limbourg is one of those places people drive past on the way somewhere else and then wish they had stopped for. The old town sits on a rock above the Vesdre: once the capital of the Duchy of Limburg, it kept its cobbled square, its Gothic church and its long views over the valley.

Our house stands at the foot of that hill. The square is a few minutes' walk up, and Verviers, Eupen, Spa, the Gileppe dam and the edge of the Hautes Fagnes are all under half an hour by car. That mix is what most of our guests come for: a quiet town to sleep in, and a region — the Vesdre valley, the Hertogenwald forest, the moorland of the High Fens — you can be walking or riding in fifteen minutes after breakfast.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I stay near Verviers?

Au Pied des Ducs is about 8 km from the centre of Verviers, at the foot of the historic town of Limbourg. It is a quiet alternative to staying in the city itself, with free parking on the street and Dolhain-Gileppe station a kilometre away.

How far is the B&B from the Hautes Fagnes?

About 15 km — roughly twenty minutes by car to the edge of the moorland, and about thirty to the Signal de Botrange, the highest point in Belgium.

What is there to see in Limbourg?

Limbourg was the capital of the Duchy of Limburg and has kept the character of it: the cobbled Place Saint-Georges, the Gothic church, remains of the ramparts and views over the Vesdre valley. The old town is listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia. Our house is directly below it, a few minutes' climb on foot.

Is breakfast included?

Yes. Breakfast is included in the €65 and served at the time you choose, with local and homemade products — we bake our own bread.

How much does a night cost?

€65 per night including breakfast, for one or two people: the price is the same either way.

Is there parking?

Yes, parking is free on the street in front of the house. No booking or resident permit is needed.

Can I bring a pet?

Ask us when you book. We look at it case by case, so just mention it in your message.

Is it a good base for walking and cycling?

Yes. The GR 573 (Vesdre and Hautes Fagnes) passes close by, the Gileppe dam is 7 km away and the Vesdre valley RAVeL routes start nearby. We are at the foot of the hill, which makes coming back at the end of the day a good deal easier.
